What is The Still-Jobless Blog?
This site is a series of articles about my experience of redundancy and unemployment.
When I was first told I was to lose my job, I assumed that it would not be long before I was back in work. I was successful, had never had a day's unemployment before in 35 years, and had managed a wide range of activities at a senior level. If I couldn't get work, even in this unprecedented recession, who could?
It didn't turn out like that. September 23rd 2009 was the anniversary of my redundancy notice, and, well, I'm still jobless....
So I began this blog as a kind of perverse "celebration" of my redundancy notice. The first article is dated 23rd September 2009, one year after that momentous event in my life, and I add a new article each week. They're a mixture of reflections on what it's been like; comments on the political and economic context; and reports from the front-line as it were of job applications, interviews and of course, thus far at least, rejections.
Each article is accompanied by a comments panel, to which you're welcome to contribute your own thoughts or experiences, or your responses to what I've written. And, of course, you can follow me on Twitter!
